Bus to Pucallpa
14 01 2007Well we got to Pucallpa in one piece. The bus blew a tire about an hour and a half outside of Pucallpa so that delayed us a bit. It’s quite something to see a tire change on a bus big enough to need 3 grown men to lift the bad wheel back up into the spare compartment. The scenery was beautiful though: vast jungles of greenness punctuated by spots of red and yellow from the birds of paradise flowers that grow naturally; cliffs several thousand feet high (nearly vertical yet somehow the tree roots have taken hold) that tower over house-sized boulders in the rivers below. There is a lot of poverty here but everyone seems to be busy doing something, including construction, laundry, butchering pigs (in the front yard), etc. Meghan met a friend on the bus so I’m going to let her tell you about her.

Yeaaa! I’ve been hoping to hear from you guys! I can sympathize with Meggie…when I’m in France, I really suffer from brain-strain…..constantly trying to think and speak in French. I’m sure you are doing a great job! I really enjoy trying to picture all these adventures….mud puddles, flat tires, new friends, etc. Hooray for you two and your stories!
Love, Mom
!Buenos dias mis amigos! ?Donde estan ahora? Well, that’s about how far my 4 years of high school Spanish gets me here in South Florida, the “3rd World” of Los Estados Unidos. I hope you two have nothing but the best of experiences and a minimum of mosquito/other flying-object bites. One of my clients in St. Louis was Spectrum Brands, which packages one of the herbal insect repellents as well as the Repel DEET formulas. Yes, it’s supposed to be the best. I think it’s so COOL that you guys are not only ABLE to take this adventure, but are DOING it. Many are envious!!!!!!!!!
I’ll keep you up on my exciting life, um, um, I watched the playoffs this weekend and had dinner with Zurn, Rebecca and Jaeden, did laundry, etc. And I’ll be thinking of you two taking on the Southern Hemisphere. All my love and hope you have the best of trails through!
